IndiGo Will Fly Mumbai to Tanzania From November, Its Second Mainland African Route
IndiGo has confirmed a new daily nonstop service between Mumbai and Dar es Salaam starting November 2026, only its second destination on mainland Africa after Nairobi and a direct competitor to Air Tanzania on the same route.

IndiGo has announced a new daily nonstop route between Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and Dar es Salaam's Julius Nyerere International Airport, starting November 2026. The announcement, confirmed by the airline in early September, follows discussions between IndiGo executives and India's High Commissioner to Tanzania, and marks only the airline's second scheduled destination on the African mainland after Nairobi, which it launched in August 2023 as its first entry into the continent.

What's changing
IndiGo has described the Mumbai-Dar es Salaam service as daily, positioning it as the airline's fourth point across Africa and its island markets when combined with Nairobi, Mauritius and its codeshare access to other African cities through Turkish Airlines. The airline has not yet published exact flight numbers, timings or fares for the route as of this announcement.
Why it matters for Indian travellers
The new route puts IndiGo in direct competition with Air Tanzania, which already operates nonstop Mumbai-Dar es Salaam service. For Indian travellers, a second airline on the route generally means more fare competition and scheduling choice on a city pair that has had limited direct options, and gives easier access to onward connections into Zanzibar, the northern safari circuit and southern Tanzania.

What to confirm before booking
As with any newly announced route, exact launch date, flight numbers and fares can shift between announcement and the start of service; this article reflects IndiGo's announcement as of late September 2026, ahead of the planned November start. Travellers should confirm the finalised schedule directly with IndiGo closer to launch, and separately arrange Tanzania's entry requirements, since Indian passport holders need either an eVisa or a visa on arrival rather than visa-free entry.
Traveller tips
- IndiGo has not yet released exact flight timings or fares; check the airline's official channels as the November launch approaches.
- Indian citizens need a Tanzania eVisa (arranged in advance) or a visa on arrival; visa-free entry is not available.
- The route will compete directly with Air Tanzania's existing Mumbai-Dar es Salaam service, so compare both once IndiGo's fares are published.
- Dar es Salaam is also a practical gateway for onward travel to Zanzibar and Tanzania's northern safari circuit.
