7 Most Instagrammable Spots on Nusa Penida, the Cliff Island Off Bali
A rugged limestone island a short boat ride from Bali, Nusa Penida has become one of Southeast Asia's most photographed destinations on the strength of a handful of dramatic cliff and lagoon viewpoints.

Nusa Penida lies roughly 45 minutes by fast boat from Sanur, on Bali's southeast coast, and has gone from a rarely visited, arid island to one of the region's most photographed destinations within the space of a decade, almost entirely on the strength of a few cliff and lagoon viewpoints. The island itself remains fairly undeveloped away from these spots, with steep, unpaved roads and limited infrastructure, so most visits are built around a handful of stops rather than an open-ended wander. Here are seven worth planning around.

1. Kelingking Beach
The island's best-known image, a curving cliff edge that resembles a T-Rex's head and tail from above, with a white-sand cove visible far below. The viewpoint at the top requires no walking; reaching the beach itself involves a steep, occasionally slippery descent not everyone attempts.
2. Angel's Billabong
A natural rock pool carved into the cliffside, filled by the tide, its turquoise water photographed most often at low tide when it's calm enough to sit at its edge. Conditions change with the tide and swell, so it isn't always safe to enter.

3. Broken Beach
A near-perfect circular bay with a natural rock arch opening onto the sea, sitting a short walk from Angel's Billabong and usually visited alongside it. The two make up one of the island's most efficient photo stops.
4. Diamond Beach
Reached by a steep staircase cut into the cliff, Diamond Beach is a white-sand cove framed by tall limestone outcrops, less crowded than Kelingking despite similarly striking scenery.
5. Crystal Bay
One of the island's few easily swimmable beaches, Crystal Bay is also a popular sunset spot and a launch point for snorkelling trips, giving it a different, more relaxed character than the island's cliff-edge viewpoints.
6. Atuh Beach
A wide cove on the island's eastern side, backed by tall cliffs and rock formations rising from the water, reached by a long staircase down from the clifftop car park.
7. The Nusa Penida Tree House
A rustic wooden treehouse platform above Diamond Beach's cliffs, built as a viewing point rather than an actual guest stay, popular for photographs looking out over the coastline at sunrise.
Traveller tips
- Fast boats to Nusa Penida run from Sanur, taking around 30 to 45 minutes; book ahead in peak season.
- The island's roads are steep and often unpaved; a scooter or hired driver is the practical way to cover its spread-out viewpoints.
- Many of the cliff viewpoints have no barriers; sturdy footwear and caution are worth taking seriously, especially after rain.
- Visiting in the dry season, roughly April to October, gives calmer seas for the boat crossing and clearer water at the coves.
