IndiGo is reported to be restoring non-stop international flights from Kolkata’s Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport to Shanghai and Siem Reap, alongside a new non-stop service to Singapore, all beginning from 1 October 2026, according to travel trade reporting on the airline’s winter schedule. The timing puts the new connections in place just ahead of Durga Puja, the multi-week festival period that is eastern India’s busiest travel season and a peak point for visitors arriving in Kolkata from Southeast and East Asia.

What’s changing

The Kolkata-Shanghai Pudong route is reported to operate as a daily nonstop service, Kolkata-Singapore Changi at six times weekly excluding Tuesdays, and Kolkata-Siem Reap at three times weekly. Before this, travellers connecting from Kolkata to these cities have generally had to route through Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur or Delhi, adding significant journey time to an eastern India departure.

Why it matters for travellers

A direct Kolkata-Singapore option gives eastern Indian travellers a same-city connection to one of Southeast Asia’s largest transit hubs without first flying to Delhi, Mumbai or Chennai, while the Shanghai and Siem Reap services restore connections that had previously lapsed. The addition follows separately reported winter-schedule increases from Emirates and Akasa Air at the same airport, adding to a broader expansion of Kolkata’s international connectivity this season.

What to confirm before booking

As with any newly announced schedule, exact frequencies, aircraft type and fares can shift before the routes actually begin flying. Readers should confirm current schedules, fares and visa requirements for Singapore, China or Cambodia directly with IndiGo and the relevant embassy before booking, since this article reflects trade reporting current as of late September 2026.

Traveller tips

  • Check IndiGo’s official booking channels for confirmed schedules once the winter timetable is finalised.
  • Singapore requires Indian passport holders to hold a visa, available online in advance; apply a few days ahead of travel.
  • China requires a visa for most Indian travellers; apply well ahead of a Shanghai trip.
  • Cambodia offers e-visa and visa-on-arrival options for Indian travellers arriving in Siem Reap.
