IndiGo has confirmed two new nonstop international routes connecting Northeast and East India directly to Bangkok: Guwahati-Bangkok, its first-ever international service out of Assam, and Gaya-Bangkok, linking the gateway city for Bodh Gaya straight to Thailand. Both routes are due to begin in the last week of October 2026, subject to final regulatory approval.

Guwahati-Bangkok

The Guwahati service starts with a special inaugural flight on 27 October 2026, moving to a twice-weekly schedule, Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 31 October. Flight 6E 1085 is scheduled to depart Guwahati at 6:15pm and land at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport at 10:45pm; the return service, 6E 1086, departs Bangkok at 8:50am and arrives in Guwahati at 10:25am.

Gaya-Bangkok

The Gaya route begins a day earlier, on 26 October, also twice-weekly, on Mondays and Thursdays. Outbound flight 6E 1083 departs Gaya at 1:15pm and lands in Bangkok around 5:50pm; the return, 6E 1084, departs Bangkok at 10:15am and reaches Gaya by 12:15pm. Gaya airport is the closest to Bodh Gaya, one of Buddhism's holiest pilgrimage sites, and the new route gives Thai and Southeast Asian pilgrims a direct link that previously required a connection through Delhi, Kolkata or another hub.

Why it matters for Northeast India

Guwahati has not previously had scheduled international passenger service on this scale, and the new Bangkok link gives the Northeast a direct gateway into Southeast Asia without routing through Delhi, Kolkata or Mumbai, a change IndiGo has framed around growing trade, tourism and cultural exchange between the two regions.

Before you book

Both routes remain subject to final regulatory approval and, as with any newly announced service, schedules and frequencies can shift between announcement and launch. This article reflects IndiGo's own announcement and route-tracking coverage as of late September 2026; readers should confirm current schedules, fares and any Thailand entry requirements directly with IndiGo and official sources before booking.

Traveller tips

  • Both routes fly twice weekly, not daily, so check the specific operating days before fixing travel dates.
  • Confirm the latest schedule and fares on IndiGo's official website or app closer to the October launch dates.
  • Check the current permitted visa-free stay for Indian passport holders in Thailand before travelling, since entry rules have changed more than once this year.
  • Gaya is the practical airport for Bodh Gaya, a short drive from the pilgrimage town itself.
