What's new

The additions include two airports, Raja Bhoj Airport in Bhopal and Tirupati International Airport, along with nine land ports, among them Attari in Punjab, Moreh in Manipur and Dawki in Meghalaya. With the expansion, India's e-Visa network now covers 37 airports, 38 seaports and 13 land ports in total.

Why Bhopal and Tirupati matter

The two new airport entry points give e-Visa holders direct access to parts of India that previously required routing through a handful of larger metro airports. Tirupati, home to the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, one of the world's most visited pilgrimage sites, gains a more direct route for overseas visitors, while Bhopal opens more direct access to central India.

What it means for travel to India

For most Indian residents this change has no direct bearing, since it concerns entry points for foreign e-Visa holders rather than outbound travel. It's a sign, though, of the continued expansion in how and where international visitors can enter the country, relevant to anyone hosting overseas family, friends or business visitors travelling to central or southern India.

Traveller tips

  • e-Visa applications and the current full list of entry points are available on India's official e-Visa portal (indianvisaonline.gov.in).
  • Not every visa category is valid at every entry point; travellers should confirm their specific e-Visa type is accepted at the intended port of arrival.
  • Entry point lists are revised periodically, so confirming directly on the official portal closer to travel dates is recommended.
  • This article reflects rules announced as of August 2026; always verify current requirements with official sources before booking travel.
