Peru's only desert oasis is a genuine geological rarity, a palm-ringed lagoon completely surrounded by towering sand dunes in the middle of the Ica desert. Here are seven spots worth building a stop around, each with a direct map link.
1. The dune ridge at sunset
The single ridge overlooking the oasis and lagoon is the classic Huacachina shot, sand dune in the foreground, green palm-ringed water below, best in the last hour before sunset when the light turns gold.
2. The lagoon walkway at blue hour
Once the sun drops, the string lights around the small lagoon switch on and the water turns mirror-still, a completely different, quieter shot than the daytime dune view.

Huacachina is a popular day trip from Ica and Paracas, which means the ridge gets busy by mid-morning; staying overnight and shooting at sunrise gets the same view with almost nobody else in frame.
