Akasa Air's New Kochi-Kuwait City Route Adds a Direct Option for Kerala's Gulf Corridor
Akasa Air has added a direct Kochi-Kuwait City service, its fifth international destination, giving Kerala's large Gulf-travelling community another non-stop option alongside the airline's existing Doha route.

Akasa Air has started direct flights between Kochi and Kuwait City, effective from mid-August 2026, operating three times a week with a Boeing 737 MAX 8. The route makes Kuwait the airline's fifth international destination and follows a Kochi-Doha service the airline launched from the same base a few weeks earlier, part of a broader push into Gulf routes from its Kerala hub.
Why Kochi specifically
Kerala sends one of the largest expatriate populations in India to the Gulf states, and Kochi has long been a key departure point for that corridor, historically served mainly by the larger legacy carriers and Gulf-based airlines. A direct, dedicated low-cost option between Kochi and Kuwait City gives travellers on that route, many visiting family or working in Kuwait, an additional non-stop choice rather than routing through Mumbai, Delhi or a Gulf hub.

Part of a wider Gulf expansion
Akasa Air has been steadily adding Middle East capacity from Kochi through 2026, with Doha and now Kuwait City joining a network that already included Gulf and Southeast Asian routes from other Indian cities. The airline has positioned the additions as a bet on Gulf-bound demand from South India specifically, rather than routing all of it through its larger northern and western hubs.

What to check before booking
Three-weekly frequency means the schedule may not suit every travel date, and airlines frequently adjust frequency and timings on new international routes within their first year of operation. Always confirm the current schedule, fare, and any Kuwait entry requirements directly with Akasa Air and Kuwait's official immigration channels before booking, since both flight timings and visa rules can change with little notice on a newly launched route.
Traveller tips
- The route currently runs three times weekly; check Akasa Air's website directly for the latest published schedule before planning connecting travel.
- Kochi's Cochin International Airport also connects onward to most major cities across Kerala and southern Tamil Nadu, making it a practical starting point for this route beyond Kochi itself.
- Indian nationals travelling to Kuwait for work require the relevant Kuwaiti work or residence visa arranged in advance; tourist and visit visa rules should be verified with Kuwaiti authorities directly.
- As with any newly launched international route, build some schedule flexibility into connecting flights or onward plans in the first months of operation.
