Air India Express expanded its domestic network on 1 September 2026, adding six new stations, Aurangabad, Coimbatore, Jamnagar, Jodhpur, Madurai and Tirupati, in one of the airline's larger single-day domestic expansions. The additions take its overall network to 64 destinations, 48 within India and 16 abroad, supported by more than 2,700 weekly domestic flights.

What launched, and where

Aurangabad, Coimbatore and Jamnagar each received two daily flights, connecting Aurangabad and Jodhpur to Delhi and Mumbai, and Coimbatore and Jamnagar to Mumbai. Jodhpur picked up daily flights to both Delhi and Mumbai, while Madurai gained a daily service to Chennai and Tirupati a daily service to Hyderabad. Bookings for all six routes are open through the airline's website, mobile app and other standard booking channels.

Why it matters for travellers

The new routes give several mid-sized cities, among them pilgrimage and business hubs like Tirupati and Jamnagar and tourism gateways like Aurangabad (for Ajanta and Ellora) and Coimbatore (for the Nilgiris), more direct, budget-carrier options into Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad without routing through larger hub airports. For travellers connecting onward internationally, Air India Express's dual domestic-and-overseas network also means some of these routes can now feed more directly into the airline's wider international connections.

Traveller tips

  • Fares and schedules on the new routes are live on Air India Express's website and app; frequencies may adjust in the weeks after launch as demand data comes in.
  • Jodhpur, Aurangabad and Tirupati are seasonal or pilgrimage-heavy routes, so booking ahead is worth it around festival periods.
  • Confirm current schedules directly with Air India Express before travelling, since new route frequencies can shift in their first months of operation.
  • Coimbatore's new Mumbai connection is a useful entry point for onward road trips into the Nilgiris and Western Ghats hill stations.
